My scientific career started at the University of Pavia, where I studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and obtained the habilitation as pharmacist. During the Erasmus exchange semester I had the opportunity to write my Diploma thesis at the University of Innsbruck, in the group of Prof. Klaus Liedl, at the Institute of General, Inorganic and Theoretical Chemistry, where I also did my Ph.D. My work focused on structure prediction of membrane proteins, especially voltage-gated calcium channels, with the aim of understanding at molecular level their functional impairment upon disease-causing mutations. Beside bioinformatic approaches, I performed molecular dynamics simulations, molecular docking and quantitative structure-activity relationships to design novel ligands for distinct membrane targets (e.g. GPER1 and sigma receptors). Since September 2017 I am part of this lab as PostDoc and I mainly work on GPCR signaling bias.
